Hiking.
The Saboteurs' Route is a trail once taken by the world-famous Norwegian Resistance during World War II, when they moved stealthily down the mountainside from the Hardangervidda, slithering down to the gorge at Vemork in order to blow up the heavy-water factory there. The trail is 8 km long, well marked and starts at Rjukan Fjellstue.
There are information boards along the route telling the story. Guided tours of the Saboteurs' Route are available in the spring, summer and autumn. The trip takes about 2 hours. For more information and booking, contact Rjukan Turistoffice.
Krokan and the Surrounding Area: Krokan is a good place for intersting, historical trips in beautiful countryside. You can follow the trails called the Krokandilten, Sluskedilten or go down to the waterfall gorge near Vemork.
On the Hardangervidda: The M/B Fjellvåken takes you on a wonderful trip across Lake Møsvatn to Mogen Turisthytte. This is a good place to start off from on hikes across the Hardangervidda mountain plain.
On the Hardangervidda: Krossobane, the cable car, whisks you up out of Rjukan. A good startingpoint for your hikes and a beautiful view over Rjukan and on the Gaustatoppen.
Gaustatoppen: The best place to start your hike is at Stavsro at 1173 metres. There is a large car park with a kiosk and a toilet. The path is clearly marked with red T's. To the top takes you about 2 hours.Gaustatoppen: this mountain towers majestically, 1883 metres above sea level over the town of Rjukan. From the top you have a fantastic view over about 1/6 of southern Norway.
Cycling.
Cycling on the Hardangervidda Mountain Plain, a perfect landscap for long or short bike rides through varied scenery. Krossobane, northern Europe's first cable car whisks you up out of Rjukan to start your adventure at a hight of 886 metres. The top station, Gvepseborg, is an excellent base for cyling on the mountain plain.
Bikes for hire at Rjukan Turist Office. Tracks are well marked and maintained . 30 km later you reach Kalhovd Turisthytte cabin, which is open from 29th juni until 10th september
On the water.
There are many idyllic lakes and tarns in Fjell-Telemark where you can hire a boat or a canoe.

Fishing.
Fjell-Telemark has more than 1000 lakes in which you can catch both trout and char. You can buy a fish permit at the Rjukan Turistoffice and on our camping.

Swimming.
Possibilities for swimming in the Lake Tinnsjø or in Rjukan Badeland, which opened in 2003 with lots of extra's, such us whirlpools, sauna, solarium etc
Riding.
Iceland pony rides in the woods or in various areas near Rjukan town centre. You don't have to be an experienced rider.
