Rjukan, .......................... the best North European iceclimbing area!
With more than 140 frozen waterfalls there is enough ice
for starters and advanced climbers.
Rjukan has a long and stable winterseason, from december until the middle of
April.
Rjukan is located in a narrow valley, ca. 20 km long; Almost all falls can be
reached easy and quick,
from 5 til 30 min. walking distance from the main road.
From Rjukan Hytte- og Caravanpark 6 falls are reachable on foot.
With that many waterfalls there is no traffic jam.
A climbing guide about this climbing area is obtainable on
http://www.mountain-environment.com/rjukanguide2002.pdf
as well
as on
www.steepstone.com
Although
Rjukan is not a big city small climbing gear can be bought at Jernia / G-sport.
They offer also the possibility to order special materials.
Other
sportive outside activities, such as skiing, Telemark skiing, cross country
skiing,
snowboarding and up-skiing or ski-saliling are
possible close by at the Gaustablikk skiing area
and on the biggest European
mountainplateau Hardangervidda.
And, the Rjukan swimmingpool / leisure centre offers a wonderful relaxation,
including sauna!
